3 Things Expats Experience in Turkey
The following is a guest post * by Emily from MexicanCandy.org.
Turkey is long known to be an IT destination for travel because of the beautiful monuments as well as the picturesque places to visit. Istanbul has been on the bucket list for many in places to travel around the globe. But there is another interesting prospect to consider whilst talking about Turkey. It is the expatriates! Turkey is a home ground for large diversities in culture and many international citizens settle and revel in the life that Turkey has to offer. So here are the 5 things that any expat from any part of the world experiences while living in Turkey:
1. Politics Is Dynamic
The country is divided by the different political parties that the locals support. There is always a turmoil toiling around in the Turkish political arena. The laws keep changing, procedures and processes keep changing and handling the local authorities can become a nightmare to some with the ever changing rules. One should feel blessed if they are able to get a permanent residency from the government, the process is quite a hassle to complete.
2. Affordable Healthy Food
Buying fresh fruits and vegetables in Turkey is cheaper than getting processed food, quite the irony. It is a blessing in disguise for many Turks and expats too who may rather have to pay exorbitant amounts of money in their own native country. Other amenities are also cheaper especially if you consider cities like Ankara (in comparison to Istanbul). The local Turkish food is also quite reasonable and delicious. Living in Turkey is quite comfortable when this fact is taken into consideration!
3. Honesty amongst the Locals
The Turks are quite the loyal and trustworthy people. A shopkeeper who knows you may completely be okay with you if you would like to make payments later. They trust each other. Quite the moral society. They can also be quite straightforward and tell directly if they find anything wrong. Or ask anything that you may generally find out of protocol in other nations, not in Turkey. Even a stranger may ask you how much you earn or tell you that you’re getting fatter!
Overall, expats have a much laid back and comfortable life in Turkey. It is the perfect place to live in after retirement with all the beautiful beaches and cities surrounding you!
