Life In Turkey Update – A Village Near Kemer
Here’s a small update on our life in Turkey. We moved again! 🙂
After Istanbul, Ankara and Usak, this time we moved to a village in Turkey. The village 30 min drive from Kemer, an international holiday destination. It is just one hour from Antalya and I’m looking forward to meeting foreigners in Antalya and Kemer and all around this area.
We did camping few times this summer in Çıralı (I totally fell in love with Çıralı)and one day while driving to Cirali from the amazing Phaselis beach, we saw a sign that said “Beycik” and we just turned and went on exploring the area. To make a long story short, just a few short weeks later we moved into the house that my in-laws bought as a summer house.
It’s been our dream for years to settle in a village, but the time was not right, apparently. Everything happens for a reason and this was the right time for us to find this amazing place in the bottom of Olympos mountain (Tahtali Dagi in the Turkish language).
We are here very new and everything is so surreal. There is even a small village school where my older son already started going to pre-school. Because there are not many kids in the village, our great teacher Pelin is taking care of the kids very nice and it is like they are in a private school. School is in the middle of the forest and kids enjoy daily walks in nature, which is very important for us.
Climate is great, we are in the mid-October and we still regularly visit the beach, which is about 15min drive away. Summers are not too hot and winters not too cold, so a win-win situation.
I’ve been an expat in Turkey for the past six years and I realized that I got used to being “alone” and not having many people around. I love people and my passion is talking to and meeting new people and spending time with friends. But time and experience in changing the place of living often showed me that today living abroad and away from family is much easier with the internet, Skype and Whatsapp.
What IS new for me in this experience is living outside of the city. But apparently, my soul was searching for something like this, because I don’t miss anything about the city, except for a skate park for my older son. It’s also true that it’s been just a short time since we moved here, but I think we will be ok here. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this experience with me, I’m looking forward to many guests, visitors, hikers that can stop by for a meal and conversation in our home. Our village in on the famous hiker’s path just below the Likya road from Tahtali Mountain to the coast. We hope to try it too.
If you have never been in this part of Turkey I sincerely advise you to come and check out Çıralı and Phaselis beach. Phaselis is an ancient city on the beach, so for the history lovers, this is a gem! Even in the fall you can come and still enjoy the great weather, tasty Turkish food, fresh pomegranate and orange juice and wonderful people in the villages around.
